Antique small coffee cups from famous french manufacture of Longwy, known for their colorful naturalistic decors in cloisonne enamels. Capacity is 2 US fl oz, so that’s quite small, for coffees like espresso or ristretto. Come with their matching saucers and a rectangular serving dish with handles. The tray can be used either for serving the cups or as a cake dish.
Earthenware. One of the typical floral designs of the manufacture, on a blue background.
The pieces of this set are from different productions. The decor is exactly the same on all of them, but there might be some very slight differences between them, although honestly barely visible.
The coffee cups and saucers have all been “hand enhanced” (“Réhaussé à la main”), which means that after they got out of the oven, an artist of he manufacture added a second layer of enamel to make them even better looking. Thanks to the combination of both the stamps and the artists’ signatures below the bases, it’s possible to date quite precisely each piece of this set :
* The 2 coffee cups were produced somewhere between 1939 and 1949 and were enhanced by artist Suzanne THEIS.
* 1 saucer was produced somewhere between 1946 and 1953 and was enhanced by artist Denise MASSON.
* 1 saucer was produced somewhere between 1966 and 1970 and was enhanced by artist Lea VALENTI.
* The tray was produced somewhere between 1930 and 1950.
